Well I gathered the first handful of ripe ground cherries. I had only tried one last year before I planted them, so I didn't really remember what they tasted like, but now that I've been munching on them all morning I can try to describe it. They're plump and juicy, and lightly sweet. Crunchy like a grape. It's like grape meets tomato. A very unique flavor, I like them a lot.

Cool! I bet they taste delicious. I love both grapes and tomatoes a lot! There is a local shrub called Woods Rose (Rosa woodsii) that have orange-red radish-looking fruit that tastes like what you described. As you can guess, they are related to the rose family, and have a lot of vitamin C.
Next spring/summer we should have a planting party, I really regret not making a garden this year.
